Ulverston
Ulverston is a picturesque market town, with its old buildings and cobbled streets. A street market, on Thursdays and Saturdays which, sells fresh local produce and an indoor market is open weekly. The area boasts a beautifully landscaped 18 hole golf course. There is a swimming pool and outdoor/indoor sports complex with gym only 300 metres from the site.
Hoad Monument
Hoad Monument (The Sir John Barrow Monument) is a 100 ft (30.5 m) tower at the top of Hoad Hill (436 ft/133 m), to the north-east of Ulverston in the Furness area of north-west England. It is a Grade II listed building in England and Wales, meaning that it is of more than local interest, and the monument stands as one of the iconic symbols of the Northwest of England.
South Lakes Wild Animal Park
South Lakes Wild Animal Park) is a 17-acre (6.9 ha) zoo established in 1994 by David Gill, and located in Cumbria, England. Named as such after its proximity to the world renowned Lake District it lies entirely within the Borough of Barrow-in-Furness on the outskirts of Dalton. See tigers, giraffes, kangaroos, lemurs and monkeys at this active conservation park with partnerships all over the world helping to save animals in their natural habitats.
Go Ape
The UK’s number one Forest Adventure, situated in Grizedale, near Hawkshead, days out at Go Ape are about living life a little more adventurously, having fun with friends and family and getting in touch with your inner Tarzan. Activities include the Tree Top Adventure, the Tree Top Junior, Forest Segways and Zip Trekking Adventure.
Old Hall Farm
Old Hall Farm, aim to provide unique experiences in a traditional working environment set in the idyllic Lake District. There are also tea rooms and a farm shop that are full of excellent produce from the farm. They also offer farming courses for tractor driving and ploughing, working with shire horses and working with steam engines.
South Walney Nature Reserve
With stunning views across Morecambe bay, this shingle island reserve is full of interest and a fantastic place for bird watching. Home to one of the largest gull colonies in Europe, more than 30000 pairs. There are large numbers of breeding Eider ducks, with close views of eggs, nests and chicks from May to July.
Furness Abbey
Furness Abbey is a former monastery located in the northern outskirts of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. The abbey dates back to 1123 and was once the second wealthiest and most powerful Cistercian monastery in the country. The visitor centre houses an education centre and an extensive exhibition about the history of the Abbey. Various pieces of stone from the Abbey have been placed here for protection.
The Dock Museum
The Dock Museum is a free attraction, built in an historic graving dock; the museum is home to a wealth of objects and information on the social and industrial history of the Furness area. They have a landscaped site and Channelside walks linking to the Cumbria Coastal Way. In the museum there is a café, toilets and baby changing facilities and it is accessible to wheelchair users with lifts to all floors.
Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway
Towards the nearby Lakes of Coniston and Windermere, jump aboard the train at Haverthwaite Station. Enjoy views from your carriage up to Lakeside; the southern tip of Lake Windermere. Then if you fancy, combine the trip with a visit to The Lakes Aquarium or continue your journey aboard a Windermere Steamer to Bowness or Ambleside.
